online multiplayer FPS
yea, i know. this topic has been hit on way too many times, but I, on the other hand, plan on finishing it.
i started working on an online multiplaer FPS. there will also be a single player campaign as well. because i cant afford voice actors, all cut scenes (if any) will be entirely in text. im also planing on including the use of ground vehicls and arial vehicles in an urban war torn setting.
any ideas are welcome. probably wont post screenies till about 2-3 months into the project. sorry, no title yet.

Re: online multiplayer FPS
you should think about the single player first then work on the multiplayer afterwards, that part will be really tricky. You need to have networking experience and have servers and everything so I would look for some guidance from someone experienced if I was you.
Re: online multiplayer FPS
alright. i've undergone construction on the project. The name of the project will be "End Game". come to think of it, there was a movie with that name. now i gotta look that up. anyway, expect more updates. production may slow down when i go to the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Manassas, Virginia. thats not until late august. still, expect updates.

hopefully, if production doesnt slow down, im expecting to have the first playable campaign level done by september, which, hopefully, i will also release a demo with only that level playable. im trying to stick to the plan i wrote out as much as possible.
btw, this isnt gonna be a first project where detail sux. oh no, detail is gonna be good enough to run on most machines.
btw btw, how do i determine the specs required to run this game???

Re: online multiplayer FPS
not sure about that....game company's do it by testing it on different systems but if you can't do that then you could bring up on the screen how much ram is being used or something.
Re: online multiplayer FPS
okay so, due to copyright laws, i can't call the game "End Game", so instead i've settled on "Dead End".
Progress so far:
I have the movement worked out, crouching, jumping.
Enemy AI is still stupid. they just point and shoot when they see you. They do however give chase now.
Gravity is still a little buggy. Still need to work that out.
Level Design isn't going so well. That's gonna take me a while longer.
Expect the due date for a playable demo to be delayed by 3 months. Give or take a week.
Reason for this is that i a went Aviation Institute of Maintenance a little early. Leaves me little time to
work on the game.
I did find a tutorial on multiplayer games, but is in dbPro, not darkGDK. Im pretting sure i can convert it to darkGDK tho. Let me know if you want it.

Re: online multiplayer FPS
May I ask how it is so far
If you could put the game on a website and go to best buy and download it there, you could probably check out computers that could run your game or not. Thats what I did when I tried minecraft on each computer, which sadly all the laptops at best buy couldn't run minecraft smoothly... Screw Minecraft
